About This Course

In this course, we will cover interesting topics starting with greetings and courtesy in the Yoruba culture. The students will learn how to introduce themselves and initiate conversations with simple sentences using the language as the medium of communication.

We will also learn about body parts and days of the week, as well as common objects, nouns and naming nouns that children come in contact with every day to help enrich their Yoruba vocabulary. The kids will learn to construct sentences using word classes, and have a bonus session where we study the rich culture and key historical moments of the Yoruba language in a child-friendly fashion

WHAT You Will Learn

Ifihan ti ara eni - How to Introduce Yourself in Yoruba 

The students will start the class by learning to introduce themselves to others in Yorùbá. They will also learn how to pronounce their full Names, Age, Country/ State of origin, where they live and more in one sentence! They will take turns to role-play and practice introducing themselves to one another with this subject divided into 2 (Parts A and B)!

Ìkíni - Greetings and Courtesy in Yorùbá

In this class the students will learn about the culture of Yorùbá’s,including how to greet their parents, elders and friends in relation to the time of the day, seasons or events happening at the moment. Kids will practice their pronunciation and postures when greeting. They will learn a new song, and have an interesting take home assignment with this subject divided into 2 (Parts A and B)!

Oro Oruko - Nouns in Yorùbá (Parts A & B)

In this lesson divided into 2 (Parts A and B), the kids will learn different names of people, places, animals and things. They will also discover interesting names of things they thought had no Yorùbá name! Kids will practice naming things around them, and forming sentences

Ìse - Verbs in Yorùbá

This lesson divided into 2 (Parts A and B), covers basic verbs used to describe things we do every day. Studentss will learn how verbs in English translate to Yorùbá, and practice using these verbs to form sentences in Yoruba like they would in English

eyà ara - Parts of the body

This lesson divided into 2 (Parts A and B), teaches kids the different names of their body parts such as shoulders, elbows, stomach, back etc in Yoruba. Students often find this interesting as they discover the Yorùbá names for their body parts with a new song!

OJO inu OSE - Days of the week (Parts A & B)

Here we will take a look at days of the week in details including their historical meanings and associated activities in Yorùbá. Studentss would learn how to tell the days apart, pronounce them correctly and use them in simple sentences with this subject divided into 2 (Parts A and B)

Onka Yoruba - Numbers 1 – 100

Numbers are important in any language, and Yorùbá isn't an exception. This class teaches kids to say and write numbers 1 - 100 using a simple technique. They will also be able to write and say dates as well as know how to count objects with this subject divided into 2 (Parts A and B).

Forming simple Yorùbá sentences 

In this class divided into 2 (Parts A and B), we will be applying all that we have learned so far – nouns, numbers, verbs, some pronoun – and we are going to make simple sentences in Yoruba. Some of the sentences we will learn here are the common Yoruba sentences used in markets, churches, home, school, etc.
